Overheating gets diagnosed before anything gets replaced. We pressure-test the system cold, watch it come up to temperature, check for combustion gases in the coolant, and confirm whether the fan is actually pulling air. A stuck thermostat, a collapsed lower hose, an airlock after someone else's repair and a plugged radiator core all read as 'overheating' on your gauge and cost very different amounts to fix.

Radiators get replaced when replacement is the right call and recored when the tanks and fittings are sound - older trucks, work vans and older imports where a new assembly is expensive or no longer made. We also handle water pumps, thermostats and housings, upper and lower hoses, heater hoses, clamps, caps and coolant leaks traced to their actual source rather than the puddle under the car.

Coolant service is part of the job, not an add-on. We check strength and condition, flush the system when the fluid is spent or contaminated, and refill with the coolant type the car specifies - mixing types is how people end up with sludge in a heater core. Cooling-related electrical is included too: fan motors, fan relays, fan clutches and coolant temperature sensors, because an electric fan that never turns on will overheat a brand new radiator.

Cooling and radiator work is what this shop specializes in. Everything else we do - electrical, lights, transmissions, maintenance - is general repair second, and it exists because cooling problems and those systems overlap more than most people expect.

A car that cranks slow one morning and not at all the next is rarely just a battery. We load-test the battery, measure alternator output under load, check the starter draw, and inspect ground straps and terminals for the corrosion that El Cajon Blvd stop-and-go driving tends to expose.

Because the cooling system and the electrical system talk to each other on modern cars, we also verify cooling fan relays, fan motors and coolant temperature sensors while we are in there. An electric fan that never kicks on will overheat a perfectly good radiator, and that is the kind of overlap decades of radiator work teaches you to check.

If a light keeps burning out, the bulb is the symptom. We trace the circuit to the real cause: a heat-damaged socket, a chafed harness behind the bumper, a bad ground, or moisture inside a housing after a front-end repair.

We also handle the lighting work that comes up around cooling system jobs. Front-end components have to come apart to reach a radiator or condenser, so headlight housings, side markers and fan wiring get inspected and reassembled correctly before the car leaves.

We start with fluid condition, level and pressure, plus a road test, before anyone talks about a rebuild. Burnt fluid, a clogged filter or a failing solenoid produce symptoms that look catastrophic and often are not - and we will tell you which one you actually have.

Transmission heat is a cooling system problem as much as a gearbox problem. Most automatics run their fluid through a cooler built into the radiator, so a plugged cooler circuit or a failing radiator will cook a transmission. We test both together, which is why cooling work and transmission work belong under one roof.

Our maintenance visits include a real look at the cooling system: coolant strength and condition, hose softening, clamp condition, cap pressure and any weeping at the radiator seams. San Diego heat and freeway climbs out to El Cajon are hard on coolant that has been in the car too long.

You get told what needs attention now, what can wait, and what is simply fine. We do not build maintenance menus designed to pad a ticket - fair pricing is the reason customers keep bringing us their second and third cars.

We clean the underside, add dye where it helps, and put the car on the lift to trace the leak to its highest point instead of guessing from the puddle on your driveway. Pan gaskets, output shaft seals, cooler line fittings and the transmission cooler inside the radiator all leak in different places.

You get a written description of what is leaking, how urgent it is, and what the repair costs before we start. A slow seep you can monitor and a cooler line about to let go are very different problems, and you deserve to know which one you have.
